BSc Digital & Technology Solutions
The BSc (Hons) Digital & Technology Solutions is a Higher Apprenticeship Degree approved by the Department of Business, Information & Skills / Skills Funding Agency in collaboration with Tech Partnerships’ network of employers and Higher Education Institutions.
The BSc (Hons) Digital & Technology Solutions aims to grow practical technology skills alongside occupational competencies developed in the work place to address the skills demands of technology platforms such as IP TV, the Internet of Things and 5th Generation Mobile Communications and provide hands-on and flexible training to develop and support the range of services, data systems and equipment being deployed in the digital and technology industries.
The programme comprises a common core with elective specialist digital and technology industry modules. Core focus is on the study of IT in business and includes a blend of technology, business, project and transferable skills with the Specialist digital and technology industry modules focusing on the specific employer needs. The core IT competencies give a solid IT business foundation to the apprentice enabling students to become confident, competent and capable independent IT Professionals in a range of roles.
The specialist digital and technology industry focussed modules within the two pathways focus on either network or software engineering and are appropriate for a professional working in either of these areas.
Core units comprises around 60% of the programme covering the following topics:
- Information systems and business
- Systems development
- Data and security
- Creative collaboration
- IT project management fundamentals
- Professional practice
- Dissertation and Final Major Project (FMP)
Pathway elective specialist units make up the remaining 40% as follows:-
- Networking fundamentals
- Networking design and build
- Advanced internet working
- Software fundamentals
- Software engineering end to end
- Advanced software engineering
This programme of study has been designed to ensure graduates are equipped to make a real business contribution for their employer within a few months of commencing their roles as a network or software engineer and those graduating from this course will also be credited with the Skills Framework for the Information Age (SFIA) Level 3 Professional Standard Award for Engineering.
