Introduction to Auto Desk - CAD and 3D printing

Learn how to use the popular software AutoDesk (AutoCAD), for architects, interior designers and engineers to prepare floor plans or to design a façade.

This course will also introduce you to 3D printing utilising the software. Taught in an enthusiastic and relaxed manner by an industry-practising tutor.

This course will provide you with all the elements to prepare your designs, floor plans or layout with the most popular software for designers, architects and engineers. And explore the possibilities of the 3D printing.

The course reviews AutoCAD's 3D modelling tools and commands, and pays special attention to necessary adaptations and settings for successful 3D prints.

Topics included: Working in scale. Extruding solids. Working with blocks. Creating terrain with lofting. Adding 3D text and logos. Converting mesh files to solids. Breaking a model into pieces. Exporting and optimizing for 3D printing. 

Key learning

1. Control of the interface and the basics of using AutoCAD drawing tools.

2. Ability to produce 2D and 3D designs. Draw details, plans and layouts. Modifying and controlling drawing objects to prepare your own designs.

3. Prepare your 3D’s to be exported to a software to be rendered or 3D printed.

4. Configure and run a 3D printer.


  • You have to be aged 19+ to study with us.
  • Minimum IT skills required to commence the course.
  • IT skills gained on completion of the course.
  • Must have used a design package before i.e – Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator.
  • Minimum IT skills required to commence the course. 
  • SolidWorks & learning about digital prototyping techniques.
